Financial contributions to the University of Dayton Athletics Division result in a designation of “representative of athletics interests” (i.e. “boosters”) in accordance with NCAA rules. Please read the basic summary below of NCAA rules associated with athletics boosters, and contact Mickey Nuzzolese, Associate Athletics Director - Compliance/Sports Programs, with any questions at (937) 229-4208 or via e-mail at mnuzzolese1@udayton.edu.

Representatives of Athletics Interests
A “representative of athletics interests” is an individual or organization that:
  •     Promotes (or has promoted) UD Athletics in any way;
  •     Makes (or has made) financial contributions to UD Athletics or any affiliated booster groups;
  •     Holds, or has ever held, season tickets;
  •     Assists (or has assisted) in providing permissible benefits to current student-athletes.

Once an individual or organization is identified as an athletics booster, it retains such status forever.

Adherence to NCAA Rules
Boosters must follow the rules set forth by the NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference, and University of Dayton. Most importantly, boosters are prohibited from making in-person, on- or off-campus recruiting contacts, or written or telephone communications with prospective student-athletes or prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardians. (Note: “Prospective student-athletes” are defined as any student that has started classes for the ninth grade).  Boosters are also prohibited from providing cash or loans to prospects, in addition to any free or reduced-cost services, rentals, or purchases, including use of an automobile, clothing, or other merchandise.
