FLYER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO HELP WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY ON SATURDAY

July 17, 2007

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will be volunteering with Women Build, an international program by Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, July 21. The Flyers will actively take part in the construction of a home for a single mother of five children.

The build takes place at 2520 Oakridge Ave. in Dayton, and players will be swinging the hammer from 8 a.m. to noon and then again 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Women Build is a program that encourages women and girls to have fun while making a difference by building homes and communities.

The University of Dayton strongly encourages students to provide service wherever needed. "Learn, Lead, and Serve," are three elements through which the university promotes students to reach out. Inspired by this, the Flyers decided to lend a helping hand to the community.

Providing the team with both the opportunity to grow as a team and develop a better sense of team work, Women Build is also a chance for players to continue their strong commitment to service.

"Women Build gives us an opportunity as young women to help other women in need," senior Brittany Holterman said. "Our team, with members from all over the world, will come together to help the Dayton community. A thousand houses have been built by female crews throughout the nation and we want to be part of building one more."
