OAKLAND EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT A-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

Dec. 10, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Nikki Oakland became the first player in the Atlantic 10 Conference to repeat as Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. The senior forward averaged a double-double of 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds to help UD (8-2) extend the nation's fourth-longest winning streak to eight games.

Oakland has tallied a double-double in three of her last four games and led the Flyers to wins over Indiana (67-59) and Drexel (60-50) this past week. She scored 13 points and added nine rebounds, three blocks, a steal and an assist in the comeback victory over the Hoosiers on Wednesday. Oakland followed with 21 points, including 12 in the decisive first half, and a season-high 11 rebounds at Drexel on Saturday.

The San Diego, CA native is the only player in the Atlantic 10 Conference to rank in the Top 15 in scoring (14.8 ppg, 11th), rebounding (7.2 rpg, 12th), field goal percentage (.541, 4th) and free throw percentage (.771, 8th). She also leads the conference with the highest single-game scoring output of the season with 32 points in the win over Akron on Dec. 2. Oakland has recorded three of her five career 20-point scoring efforts in the first 10 games of this season.

After a week off to focus on end of semester exams, Dayton will host backyard rival Wright State on Sunday at UD Arena to open a stretch of four out of five games at home before New Year's Day. The game will tipoff at 2 p.m. ET and can be followed in the Dayton area on WHIO Radio (95.7 FM & 1290 AM). The official online home of UD Athletics, www.DaytonFlyers.com, will also feature FREE live video, live audio and Gametracker.
