RATERMAN'S GAME-HIGH 18 POINTS NOT ENOUGH AS DAYTON FALLS TO GW

Jan. 28, 2009

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - A game-high 18 points from freshman Justine Raterman was not enough on Wednesday as the University of Dayton Flyers fell to George Washington at home, 64-52. UD dropped to 13-8 (2-3 Atlantic 10) while the Colonials improved to 12-8 (4-1).

George Washington has now won all 24 meetings between the programs.

Freshman Casey Nance added nine points and nine rebounds for Dayton, but the Colonials shot 11-of-22 from three-point range while holding UD to 29.6 percent shooting from the field. It was Dayton's lowest shooting performance since their opening game against the Texas Longhorns.

An early 4-3 Dayton lead quickly evaporated as George Washington used an 18-3 run over the next 10:01 to take a 21-7 advantage.

The Flyers shot just 2-of-12 to start the game, but Raterman would heat up to get Dayton on track. Her two free throws ended George Washington's run at the 7:51 mark, and her three-pointer on UD's next possession cut the Colonials' lead to 21-12.

However, George Washington was able to maintain a double-digit lead thanks to sinking 7-of-12 first half three-point attempts. Tara Booker was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the half as she led the Colonials to a 34-20 halftime advantage.

Raterman paced the Flyers with seven first half points.

To begin the second half, the Colonials picked up where they left off as Antelia Parrish made a three-pointer on GW's first possession.

UD junior Kendall Ross answered with a pair of threes on her next two shot attempts, but Dayton still found itself down 43-28 at the 16:00 mark.

Raterman continued Dayton's push by nailing back-to-back threes four minutes later. On the next possession, Ross buried a trey from the left wing to pull Dayton within nine with 11:18 remaining.

Raterman's fourth three-pointer of the evening kept the Flyers within striking distance, 56-47, with 4:55 to play. But the Colonials answered with a 5-0 that buried the Flyers and led to a 64-52 GW victory.

Sophomore Kristin Daughtery was held to only six points, marking just the fourth time this season she has not tallied double-figures.

The Flyers are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 31 to take on the Temple Owls in Philadelphia, PA at 3:30 p.m. EST. Fans can keep up with all of the action live via Gametracker by logging onto DaytonFlyers.com.
