FLYERS FINALIZE 2011 RECRUITING CLASS

DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton women’s basketball coach Jim Jabir has finalized his Flyer 2011 recruiting class by adding 6-foot-4 center Jodie Cornelie, a member of the French National team.
“Jodie is an exceptional talent and a great kid,” said Jabir. “She has a ton of potential and we are excited to have her join our program. This is another sign of our ability to compete against big-name women’s basketball teams across the country.”

She helped France to a runner-up finish at the 2010 FIBA U-17 World Championships this summer, starting every game and averaging 4.9 ppg and 4.5 rpg. In the championship final against the United States, she had four points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.

In addition to putting up 6.9 ppg and 6.6 rpg, she averaged nearly a block a game (.9) at the 2009 FIBA U-16 European Championship, helping France to a bronze medal.
She was one of 10 players in her age group in the country chosen to play for the Centre Federal Du Basket-Ball (CFBB) the same organization in which NBA player Tony Parker was developed. Cornelie, of Strasbourg, France, has trained with the CFBB since she was 14.

Cornelie joins 6-foot-3 forward Ally Malott of Madison High School, and 5-foot-8 guard Andrea Hoover of Spring Valley Academy as Dayton’s 2011 class.

“Jodie rounds out a great class for us and addresses some future needs we will have,” said Jabir. “We are so glad to be bringing all three of these kids into the Flyer family.”

Malott, the second-rated senior in Ohio who is 40th nationally in the latest ESPNU Hoop Gurlz 100 recruiting rankings, was named to the 2010 USA Women’s U-18 National Team this summer and helped the squad to a gold medal in the FIBA Americas Championship. Heading into her senior season she has scored 1,191 points and grabbed 840 rebounds and helped Madison to a 68-8 record during her career.

Hoover is a shooting guard who led the Ohio Lady Attack to an AAU 15-U national fourth place finish in 2009. Hoover, named to ESPNU’s Class of 2011 Super 60 Players, averaged 21.5 points in the National Association of Christian Athletes Division II National Championship.

Dayton, just off winning the Minnesota Subway Classic, hosts UIC this Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. at UD Arena.
