Boxscore

CINCINNATI –
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team lost its second consecutive game, falling 75-64 to Cincinnati (2-0) Wednesday night at Fifth Third Arena.

Senior Justine Raterman and freshman Andrea Hoover led UD with 11 points each. Senior Casey Nance and sophomore Cassie Sant tacked on nine points each.  Senior Elle Queen led the Flyers on the boards with seven. Senior Patrice Lalor dished a team-high six assists.

The Flyers (1-2) were outrebounded 34-25 in the game. Dayton allowed UC to shoot 53.7 percent from the field (29-of-54). UD did outperform at the line, shooting 80 percent (8-of-10, all in the second half), while Cincinnati shot just 55 percent (11-of-20).

The Bearcats’ biggest lead of the second half was 49-31 but the Flyers cut it to a five-point deficit with 5:51 remaining in the game on Hoover’s layup. Cincinnati then went up by eight points before Raterman hit a pair of free throws to get UD within five again, 63-58, with 2:53 to play. UC outscored the Flyers 12-6 down the stretch thanks to a three-pointer by Bjonee Reaves on the Bearcats’ next possession. Then the senior hit a layup and made five free throws in the final 51 seconds to keep UD at bay. Reaves put up a career- and game-high 25 points.

Dayton was behind 45-29 at the half. The Bearcats dominated the boards with a 20-8 rebounding advantage over Dayton.  Senior Chanel Chisolm scored 14 first-half points to lead UC. And the Flyers held her without a field goal in the second half. She finished with 15 points in the game.

Dayton was still in striking distance after Nance’s fast-break layup with 9:22 to go in the period made it a one-possession ball game with UC holding a 22-19 edge. Then the Bearcats used a 23-8 run over the next eight minutes to hold their largest lead of the game, 45-27, with 1:46 to play in the half.  Lalor knocked down a jumper with 1:33 on the clock for the halftime score 45-29.

The Flyers have nine days before their next game at Connecticut’s World Vision Classic in Storrs, Conn. Nov. 25-27. Dayton opens the tournament against Buffalo on Friday, Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. ET in Gampel Pavilion. The Flyers play Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday at 5 p.m. and UConn on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. The game against Connecticut marks the 700th in Jim Jabir's head coaching career.
