2011-12 Season Review
The 2011-12 University of Dayton women’s basketball team posted a 23-7 record; the .767 winning percentage is the best in Head Coach Jim Jabir’s career. It was quite a journey. The Flyers lost three of their first six games of the season, including a tough loss at then-No. 2 UConn. Dayton won a program-best 12 Atlantic 10 games (12-2), its two conference losses by a total of five points (four-point loss to Temple and one-point loss to St. Bonaventure). UD won three games in three days –including victories over the Owls and Bonnies – to win the Atlantic 10 Championship. Three of Dayton’s six regular season losses came to teams that advanced to at least the Sweet 16 this season (Connecticut, Gonzaga, and St. Bonaventure).
Statistical Leaders
Dayton led the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense (70.1), scoring margin (+10.1) and assists (16.0 apg). The Flyers also led the conference in home attendance with an average of 2,382 fans per game. Senior Justine Raterman was fourth in scoring (14.4 ppg) and third in free throw percentage (.849). Senior Patrice Lalor led the conference in assist/turnover ratio (2.1) and was second in assists (134). Senior Elle Queen was sixth in steals (1.9 spg) and seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.5). Senior Casey Nance was sixth in blocked shots (1.3 bpg).
Champions at Last
Dayton captured its first-ever Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship title with a 56-53 victory over No. 16/22 St. Bonaventure. Senior Justine Raterman was named the Most Outstanding Player and fellow senior Patrice Lalor, was also named to the All-Championship Team. Raterman became the first player in conference history to be named to the all-championship team in four consecutive seasons.
Tournament-Bound Again
In winning the Atlantic 10 Championship, the Flyers advanced to their third consecutive NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. Dayton earned the No. 11 seed in the tournament setting up a matchup with the No. 6 seeded Arkansas Razorbacks. Dayton fell to the Razorbacks 72-55.
All-American
Senior Justine Raterman was named a Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award First Team All- American. She led the Flyers in scoring all four years of her career.
Flyers Rake in A-10 Honors
Four University of Dayton players were honored when the Atlantic 10 released its 2012 All Conference Teams. Senior Justine Raterman was named an A-10 First Team selection for the second consecutive season, as well as an All-Academic Team honoree. Fellow senior Elle Queen was voted to the A-10 All Defensive team. Freshmen Andrea Hoover and Ally Malott were both named to the All-Rookie Team. The Flyers were the only team with two rookies honored. Hoover was also named the A-10 Rookie of the Year.
Nationally-Ranked
In the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll, the Flyers received 10 votes, coming in at No. 31 overall. The Flyers finished No. 37 in the final RPI poll.
Lalor Gets 500
Senior Patrice Lalor reached the 500 milestone for career assists (502) in the A-10 Championship win over St. Bonaventure. She finished her career with 505 assists, second all-time at UD. Her career 1.62 assist/turnover ratio is a Dayton career record

Hoover Scores 300 as Freshman
Andrea Hoover finished her freshman season with exactly 300 points, the first Flyer to score at least 300 in her rookie campaign since her senior teammate Justine Raterman scored 459 in 2008-09. Hoover was the second biggest scoring threat behind Raterman this year with 10.0 ppg.
Nance’s Block Party
Senior Casey Nance finished second all-time at Dayton for career blocked shots with 214, just seven off the leader Michele Kruty (1984-88) who had 222.
Seven Seniors
Dayton had seven seniors this year, tied with three other teams for the most on any squad this season. The seniors won 90 games during their careers. They had 20+ win seasons all four years and advanced to the postseason every season of their careers, including three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
Incoming Class
Dayton’s incoming freshman class is ranked 31st in the nation and is the top recruiting class in the Atlantic 10 this season.
