ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Dayton Flyers women’s rowing program opened the 2011-12 campaign at the Head of the Rock, in Rockford, Ill.

"In general, the Head of the Rock was a great race to start the season," head coach Michael Wenker said. "The team raced well against some very fast crews from around the Midwest.”

In the women’s collegiate 8+, the Dayton A (Katie Hocin, Sadie Wonders, Katherine Bruening, Molly Chipman, Katelyn Reynolds, Martha Sitkiewicz, Ali Girten, Jordan Vellky and Erin Quinn) completed the racecourse in a time of 17:13.8.

Dayton B (Marcy Prendergast McKay Rehwinkel, Marissa Dunyak, Laura Profumo, Lauren Bielak, Beth Eckstein, Susie Klimowicz, Olivia Ullery and Kori Reinke) clocked in at 18:06.7..

In the women’s collegiate varsity 4, Dayton A (Allison Santho, Wonders, Bruening, Michelle Baeder and Quinn} came in fourth with a time of 18:41.5. 

Dayton B (Katie Hocin, Chipman, Julie Wittman, Lauren Jabir and Haley Murrell) was close behind at 18:55.4. The Dayton C (Nicole Baeder, Vellky, Reynolds, Sitkiewicz and Ali Van Loon) finished with a time of 19:12.7.

Up next for the Flyers is the Jack Speakmon Memorial Regatta in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 15.

"The team has some things to work on in prpeparation for the Speakmon Regatta this weekend in Columbus and the Head of the Eagle in Indianapolis at the end of the month," Wenker said. "The team is making nice progress in terms of fitness and technique."
