UD WOMEN'S ROWING OPENS THE SPRING SEASON IN TENNESSEE

The event features 11 schools from various conferences including the BIG EAST, ACC, Conference USA and Big Ten.
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The University of Dayton women's rowing team began its spring season at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The event featured 11 schools from various conferences including the BIG EAST, ACC, Conference USA and Big Ten.

The Flyers competed in the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+ and Third Varsity 8+ events.

The Flyers raced Louisville and Duke in the Saturday morning session. The Varsity 8+ finished third behind Louisville (6:30.8) and Duke (6:35.3) with a time of 6:48.96. The Second Varsity 8+ finished third with a time of 7:01.11. The Third Varsity 8+ placed third with a time of 7:41.00.

During the Saturday evening session, the Flyers raced Alabama and Tennessee. UD placed second in the Varsity 8+ behind Tennessee (6:28.8) with a time of 6:37.14. In the Second Varsity 8+ the Flyers placed third behind Tennessee (6:37.60) and Alabama (6:49.98) with a time of 6:55.21. The Third Varsity 8+ crossed the finish line with a time of 7:24.49.

On Sunday, Dayton raced Buffalo and Jacksonville. In a close race, the Flyers won the Second Varsity 8+ with a time of 6:56.80 against Buffalo’s A and B boats. Dayton finished second in the Women's Varsity 8+ behind Buffalo (6:42.3) with a time of 6:46.91. The Third Varsity 8+ finished third with a time of 7:42.09.

“Overall, the team fared well this weekend,” said head coach Michael Wenker. “The Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational is a great race to start the season and the team made some nice progress between races.”

Dayton’s next event will take place against Duquesne, North Park, and Marietta on Saturday, March 24 in Marietta, Ohio.
