FIVE FLYER WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS BRING HOME 2008 OCSA ACADEMIC ALL-OHIO HONORS

-  Five University of Dayton women's soccer players were selected to the 2008 Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association Academic All-Ohio Women's Teams. Seniors Amanda Gallow (West Chester, Ohio), Kim Sacher (San Diego) and Deana Waintraub(Richmond Hill, Ontario), junior Lauren MacCormick (Cincinnati) and sophomore Kelly Blumenschein (Beavercreek, Ohio), were among 31 student-athletes from the state of Ohio to be honored for their excellence on the pitch and in the classroom during the 2008 season.

Blumenschein and Waintraub earned top honors for UD with a First Team nod to the OCSA All-Academic Team. Gallow and Sacher were both named Second Team Academic All-Ohio, while MacCormick earned Third Team honors.

Blumenschein, a sophomore forward, was second on the team in scoring after registering six goals and six assists. She was named an Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference selection. She carries a 3.77 GPA in her double major of finance and entrepreneurship, with a minor in Spanish. A senior goalkeeper, Waintraub, was on the A-10 First Team thanks to a stellar year in which she posted a 13-3-1 record, five shutouts and a 0.88 GAA. She is a physical education major and has a 3.625 GPA.

Gallow carries a 3.95 GPA in pre-physical therapy and was a starting midfielder for the Flyers, tallying three goals and three assists. She is one of Dayton's most decorated players, earning Second Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® honors in 2008. She has been a member of the Dean's List every semester at UD and is a two-time selection to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team.

Sacher and MacCormick are both pre-medicine majors. Sacher started 13 games and notched one goal and an assist and holds a 3.72 GPA. MacCormick, a 2007 OCSA Academic All-Ohio selection, has a 3.42 GPA. She was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week (Oct. 20).

The Flyers, who went 15-6-1 and earned a conference-record 13th consecutive bid to the Atlantic 10 Championship during the '08 season, open the spring portion of their schedule this Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. ET against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and then take on Purdue at 2:40 p.m. ET. Both games are in West Lafayette, Ind.
