FT. WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Dayton softball squad accounted for 14 hits in its 7-5 win over IPFW Tuesday in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader. Freshman Lauren Nacke hit her first collegiate homerun, junior Megan Lee hit two doubles, going 2-for-4, while junior Anne Maci went 3-for-4 to pace the Flyers at the plate.

"The offense was so solid in the win," said UD Coach Cara Clark. "Lauren Nacke came up big with a huge homerun in a pinch hit situation. Allie did so well on the mound. She kept the IPFW hitters off balance and gave us the chance for the win."

The Mastodons (10-11) led 3-1 heading into the sixth inning when the UD bats came alive. Nine of Dayton's 14 hits came in the final two innings. Lee and Courtney Kutsulis (2-for-4) each had a RBI in the sixth to tie the game at 3-all.

The Flyers (4-24) rallied with four runs to take the lead in the seventh. Senior Katie Jordan started the frame with a single to right field. Sophomore Emily Stegeman advanced her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Maci notched her third hit of the game with a single to left center which scored Jordan after an errant throw. That's when Nacke stepped in and did some serious damage; her two-run bomb to right center added two more runs to the Flyers' total. Sophomore Allie Falk, who earned the win, helped her cause with an RBI single through the left side. Falk allowed three hits in three innings of work.

IPFW made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh. The Mastodons scored two runs and had two on with two outs with the winning run at the plate. Kaylee Faurote lined a hard ball to Stegeman who snagged it to close out the game.

Sophomore Alicia Nichols also had a solid outing at the plate for UD, going 2-for-3.

The Flyers outhit IPFW 14-7.
