DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton Flyers were swept on Saturday by the Charlotte 49ers in a doubleheader at Dr. Phillips Complex.

The Flyers (11-21, 2-4 A-10) were downed 8-0 in the first game, and lost the second game 6-1, despite having a better offensive game than the first.

Eva Rappe (4-5) picked up the first loss of the day after allowing 5 hits and striking out four. Sarah Wedel (4-9) collected the loss in game two after pitching six innings, allowing only three earned runs and striking out four.

Senior Molly Meyer had three hits on the day and four other Flyers would tally one hit throughout the two games. Dayton had two hits in the first game versus five in the second.

Charlotte (23-6, 4-0 A-10) jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the second inning of the first game. The Flyers held Charlotte to three runs until the fifth inning when they added four runs. A final run by the 49ers in the sixth would end the game on a run-rule decision.

Brandy Brown started off the fourth inning with her seventh double of the season but the Flyers would end the inning with Rappe, who ran for Brown, stranded on third.

In the second game, the Flyers got on the board first. During the second inning, Alicia Nichols got on base after being hit by the pitch. Kathleen Maloof followed that with a long double to left field, scoring Nichols. The 49ers immediately responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Charlotte would prove to be too much to handle, scoring four more runs on seven hits in the final five innings.

Throughout the two games UD left nine batters stranded, including the bases loaded in their scoreless first inning of the second game.

The Flyers travel to Eastern Kentucky University on Monday, April 5, to take on the Colonials (9-22) for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. ET.
