Results

The University of Dayton women's tennis team picked up where the Flyers left off last spring, bringing a pair of wins home from Indianapolis on Saturday. UD knocked of Indianapolis 5-2 and IUPUI 4-3 to begin the season. Dayton won seven of its last nine regular season matches last spring.

Against Indianapolis, the Flyers won all three doubles matches, and then won four of the six singles events to give head coach Erica Eckho her first win as UD's head coach. The IUPUI match was much closer. UD once again took the doubles point, but singles were nip-and-tuck until junior Kara Metzger took the deciding singles match in three sets 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

In the Indianapolis victory, Dayton got wins from the #1 doubles team of Alyssa Detroy and Metzger (8-0), Nicole Dzubay and Megan Gray at #2 doubles (8-3), and Katie Mellion and Carrie Triglio (8-5). Singles winners were Mellion at #2 (6-1, 6-1), Dzubay at #4 (6-3, 7-6; 7), Metzger at #5 (4-6, 6-2, 6-0) and Gray at #6 (6-1, 6-0).

Against IUPUI, Flyer winners were Dzubay/Gray (8-6) and Mellion/Triglio (8-4) in doubles, and Mellion (6-1, 6-0), Metzger (4-6, 6-0, 6-3) and Gray (6-2, 6-4).

UD's next action is September 16-17 at the Wittenberg Invitational.
