DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women’s track and field team heads to Kingston, R.I. this weekend to defend its Atlantic 10 Indoor Title and attempt to three-peat for A-10 gold.
Dayton is firing on all cylinders as it heads into the conference showcase. Several Flyers turned in new personal bests and also climbed their way in the program’s all-time rankings.
Sophomore Nicole Cargill improved her personal record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.88. Her second place finish on Saturday is the second fastest time in UD Track & Field History. Sophomore Lizzie Gleason finished third and posted the third-best time in UD history with a time of 2:16.27.
Sophomore Maddi Schmidt jumped her way to second all-time in UD history in the triple jump. Schmidt had a length of 11.35m (37-03.00), placing fourth in the Akron Invitational.
The A-10 Championship will once again be held at Mackal Field House on the campus of the University of Rhode Island. The women’s pentathlon will open the championship at 9:20 a.m. on Friday morning. Events will be on a rolling schedule until the final event of the evening, the women’s distance medley relay at 6:15 p.m.
Action will resume on Saturday with the women’s high jump at 9 a.m. and will conclude with the women’s 4x400 meter relay at 2:55 and an awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

TOP THREE VAULTERS
The Atlantic 10’s top three marks in the pole vault belong to University of Dayton track and field student-athletes. Senior Courtney Siebenaller has the highest mark (12-08.25 – Akron Invitational). Sophomore Hanna Krizmanic is second (12-02.50 – Akron Invitational) and sophomore Katrina Steinhauser (12-02.00 – Meyo Invitational) is third.
SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS
Freshman Ellie Grandi is second in the A-10 in the high jump. Grandi has a mark of 5-05.75, which she has reached twice, most recently at the Indiana Relays on January 28.
WEEMAN RANKS FIRST
UD’s Aly Weeman has the top throw in the Atlantic 10 this year. Weeman’s distance of 56-04.75 (17.19m) is nearly four feet longer than Duquesne’s Arin Whitman.
PENTATHLON
After stellar outings at the Akron Invitational’s Combined Events session last weekend, Hilary Lang ranks first in the Atlantic 10 with 3,242 points. Dayton’s Maddi Schmidt is second on the list with a score of 3,211 and Erin Baldinger is fifth with 3,122 points. Katy Garcia rounds out the top eight with 2,967 points.
MASON RANKS THIRD IN 5K
Elissa Mason ranks third in the A-10 in the 5,000 meters after clocking 17:08.56 at the Meyo Invitational last weekend. Mason also broke into the top eight with her first sub-five minute mile of the season at the Akron Invitational. She ranks seventh with a time of 4:57.51.
