FLYER FANS CAN ENJOY SOCCER AND VOLLEYBALL HOME GAMES FREE OF CHARGE THIS SEASON

Aug. 16, 2009

For the 2009 Fall Sports Season, the University of Dayton Division of Athletics has decided not to charge admission for three fall sports: volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer.

The Flyers' decision not to ticket the three fall sports was made as a thank you to the Dayton community for their continued and unwavering support of UD Athletics.

"This decision was made to build attendance and atmosphere at games, as well as creating additional exposure for our NCAA caliber teams to the Dayton community," said Tim Wabler, UD's Vice President and Director of Athletics. "The outlook for the success of our fall sports teams is very promising and we are highly anticipating the upcoming fall sports season."

As fans have the opportunity to watch high caliber, NCAA teams at no cost, the Flyer Athletics Department hopes this change will encourage more families, alumni, current students and the general public to the events.

This will also serve as a great opportunity for youth teams to come watch players in their respective sports compete at a high level and meet the players and coaches after home games.

In men's soccer, the Flyers are coming off a season that saw them earn an NCAA berth and win the 2008 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship. Dayton is the top-ranked team from the Conference in both the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer polls.

The University of Dayton women's soccer team has been selected to claim the Atlantic 10 women's soccer title in voting conducted by the league's head coaches. The Flyers posted a 15-6-1 overall record and advanced to the finals of the 2008 A-10 Championship.

Flyer volleyball was picked to finish second by the Atlantic 10 coaches after finishing 2008 with an 11-2 conference record. Dayton earned its first at-large bid into the NCAA Championship after a 21-13 finish last season.
