KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Yvonne Marten had a career-high 17 kills as Dayton won its 12th consecutive match by sweeping Rhode Island in straight sets on Friday night at Keaney Gymnasium (25-14, 25-17, 25-12).

“It was the Yvonne Marten show out there tonight,” Head Coach Kelly Sheffield said. “She was scoring early and Sam (Selsky) kept going to her. (Marten) was an all-around powerful presence for us– offensively and at the net. She was doing it all for us.”

It is the most kills in a match from Marten in nearly four years after topping her previous career-high of 15 kills on Oct. 26, 2007 against Duquesne. The Fortville, Ind., native and fifth-year senior did so with a .424 hitting percentage, four blocks and seven digs – totaling 19 points – against the Rams on Friday night.

The Flyers improved to 16-5 and 8-0 in A-10 play by not surrendering a single lead to the Rams for the duration of all three sets. It is UD’s 33rd consecutive win against an Atlantic 10 opponent.

Rhode Island (11-11, 3-5 A-10) was held to a -.011 hitting percentage – the seventh match this season that Dayton has held its opponent to a sub-.100 clip.

Dayton returns to action tomorrow against Fordham in the Bronx (N.Y.) with first serve set for 7 p.m. ET.
