ESTERO, Fla. - Despite only scoring 58 points, the Dayton women's basketball team posted a 21-point win over Maine, 58-37, in the opening round of the Gulf Coast Showcase Friday afternoon. Senior Amber Deane led all scorers with 18 points for the Flyers.
GAME BREAKDOWN
• 1Q: Dayton held the 14-4 advantage after the first 10 minutes after scoring the first six points of the game. Maine was held without a field goal during the entire first quarter, scoring its four points on made free throws.
• 2Q: Heading into the half, the Flyers were ahead of the Black Bears, 32-14. Maine got as close as four points, 16-12, after an 8-0 run but Dayton scored the last 10 points of the first half to secure the 16-point halftime lead.
• 3Q: Dayton scored all of its 14 third-quarter points in the paint, including 12 on a fast break. Deane scored eight-consecutive points to put the Flyers up 20, 42-22, and Dayton had its largest lead of the game at 46-22 after a layup from junior Saicha Grant-Allen.
• 4Q: The Flyers were held scoreless for the first five minutes of the final quarter but Dayton was able to tally 12 bench points over the final five minutes of the game. Maine scored 13 points in the fourth, its largest point output of the contest. Dayton finished the game with the 21-point, 58-37, win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Deane led all scorers with a game-high 18 points. She was 9-of-14 from the floor and recorded three steals to go with one assists for UD. Freshman Jenna Burdette also tallied three steals in addition to her game-high four assists.
• Freshman Maddy Dennis was the team leading rebounder with seven. She also dished out two assists to go with her three points. Grant-Allen grabbed six rebounds for the Flyers.
• Dayton out-shot Maine, 48.1 percent to 21.3 percent for the game while the battle of the boards was even at 33 rebounds apiece.
KEY STATS
• Dayton scored 38 of its 58 points in the paint compared to Maine's eight. The Black Bears were better on the offensive glass, scoring 12 second-chance points to the Flyers' two.
• The Flyers recorded four blocks in the contest, two each from senior Kelley Austria and senior Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova. The Black Bears had zero blocks.
• Dayton's free throw percentage: 57.1 percent. The Flyers went 4-for-7 at line for an uncharacteristically low free-throw percentage.
