Nationally-Ranked Flyers Take On Undefeated Zips

The University of Dayton women's basketball team (1-1) hosts the University of Akron (2-0) Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena.
 
FLYER FACTS
-       Dayton went unbeaten at home last season, and improved its home court winning streak to 13 straight, which is the seventh best in NCAA Division I women's basketball.

-       Dayton women's basketball is ranked in both the AP Top 25 (No. 21) and USA Today Coaches' (No. 23) Preseason Polls. Last year Dayton was ranked as high as No. 11 in both polls. UD has been ranked for 20 consecutive weeks.

-       For the second consecutive year the Flyers open the season on the road in a tournament. Last year, Dayton won the Maggie Dixon Classic to kick off 2012-13. UD's Amber Deane was named MVP of the Classic. This year the Flyers opened the 2013-14 season at the Hawkeye Challenge, with an 89-54 win over UC Riverside and a 97-93 overtime loss to host Iowa. Deane and Andrea Hoover were named to the all-tournament team.

-       The Flyers have made six consecutive postseason appearances, including four straight to the NCAA Tournament.

-       Dayton women's basketball games will be broadcast via web stream again this year. Shane White will provide play-by-play on nearly all the Flyer women's basketball games, including road games. The games will be aired live on DaytonFlyers.com. The Flyers will also be featured on WHIO Radio for its George Mason game on Feb. 1. Tom Michaels will have the call on the WHIO broadcasts.

SERIES INFO
The Flyers lead the series 8-1 over Akron and have won seven consecutive in the series. Last year Dayton defeated Akron 90-59 at the James A. Rhodes Arena. Cassie Sant and Andrea Hoover both had 18 points to lead the Flyers.
 
SCOUTING AKRON
The Zips return four starters from a squad that posted a 23-10 record last season and won the MAC East Division Regular Season title. Senior forward Rachel Tecca (18.5 ppg) and senior guard Hanna Luburgh (16.6 ppg) are Akron's leading returning scorers. The Zips opened the 2013-14 season with a 98-69 home win over Florida Atlantic on Nov. 8. Tecca had 36 points and Luburgh added 22 points vs. Florida Atlantic. They played Tennessee Tech on Nov. 12 and ran away with a 118-71 victory. Luburgh had 33 points vs. Tech.

UP NEXT
The Flyers have a three-game road swing, starting with a trip to East Lansing, Mich. to take on nationally-ranked Michigan State on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. They also play at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn. on Sunday, Nov. 24 and at Central Michigan Thursday, Dec. 5. UD's next home game is Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. vs. Washington State. It will be the Flyers' alumnae game with a pre-game reception and halftime reception of former UD women's basketball players.
