Box Score DAYTON, Ohio - The #23/21 ranked University of Dayton women's basketball team began its home schedule with a 94-80 victory over the University of Akron on Friday, Nov. 15. Four Flyers had career days, including senior
Cassie Sant who paced the team with career highs of 24 points, and 10 field goals made. It marked the 14th consecutive home win for the Flyers, which is the seventh best home-winning streak in the nation.
Junior
Ally Malott finished the day with a double-double, including 16 points and a career-high 10 assists. Two other Flyers finished with double-digit points, including 23 from sophomore
Amber Deane, and 10 from sophomore Kelly Austria. Deane had a career-best nine free throws. Junior
Andrea Hoover also added nine points, and had career highs in both rebounds (14) and assists (6).
As for the Zips, they were led by the two-pronged attack of seniors Hannah Luburgh and Rachel Tecca, who finished with Luburgh notching a career-high 37 points and Tecca putting up 25 points.
As a team, UD shot 48 pecent from the field, and 25 percent from three-point range. The Flyers also out-rebounded the Zips by a margin of 52-31 including a 13-4 advantage on the offensive boards, and led the game in assists with 30.
Dayton maintained the lead for much of the first half, leading by as many as 11 points. Akron went on a 9-0 run to finish the half to take a 45-41 halftime lead.
Early in the second half, UD went on a 22-4 run early to take a commanding 66-51 lead, one that they would not relinquish. UD led by as many as 18 in the second half. Akron did go on a 10-0 run late in the second half to cut the lead to 79-71, but UD's free throw shooting, including Austria's 5-of-6 from the line, put the game away for the Flyers.
UD will now begin a three-game road trip that begins with a stop in East Lansing, Mich. as the Flyers will square off against the #20/19 ranked Michigan State Spartans. The game will tip-off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.
