NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Dayton fell 82-52 to Vanderbilt Sunday at Memorial Gym in a game between two squads that are both receiving votes in the AP Top 25 Poll.
For the first time this season, the Flyers did not have four players score in double figures. Senior
Cassie Sant paced Dayton with 20 points and six rebounds and junior
Andrea Hoover added 11 points and five rebounds.
UD shot a season-low 33.3 percent from the field and a season-low 19.0 percent from three-point range, while allowing Vanderbilt to shoot a season-high 57.4 percent from the field and 72.2 percent from three-point range.
Vandy had more turnovers than UD 26-22, but the Commodores capitalized, outscoring Dayton 27-18 on points off turnovers.
The Flyers (2-3) fell behind 33-23 in the first half to the Commodores (4-2) and could not find a way back into the game in the second stanza.
UD struck first on a Hoover trey eight seconds into the game. Both teams struggled, offensively, Dayton held a slim lead until 10:34 remaining in the first half when Rebekah Dalhman drilled a three and gave the 'Dores the lead for good. Hoover's layup with 6:53 left in the first half pulled the Flyers within 19-18 and that's as close as the Flyers would get the rest of the game. Vanderbilt closed out the half on a 14-5 run for the 10-point lead at the half.
Vanderbilt led by double digits the rest of the game and built that lead to a 30-point advantage with 2:06 showing on the clock.
The Flyers play at Central Michigan Thursday, Dec. 5. UD's next home game is Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. vs. Washington State. It will be the Flyers' alumnae game with a pre-game reception and halftime reception of former UD women's basketball players.
