Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team won the rematch against the Central Michigan Chippewas 102-89 at UD Arena on Monday night. Dayton (6-4) lost the first non-conference battle against Central Michigan (4-8) earlier this month 94-91 at Central Michigan on Dec. 5. UD topped the 100 point mark for the first time this season en route to their 17th straight home victory; their homecourt winning streak is tied for sixth in the nation.

Sophomore Kelley Austria and junior Andrea Hoover led six Flyers in double-figures with 19 points apiece. Austria nearly put on a perfect offensive showing as she shot 5-of-6 from the field, 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and 6-of-6 from the foul line. Hoover shot 7-of-14 from the field and added seven rebounds.

The Flyers scored just four points off their bench in the first match-up against the Chippewas, but today they managed 22 bench points including a career-high 11 points from freshman Celeste Edwards and eight points from sophomore Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova.

The UD defense was relentless in the second half as they turned a four point halftime deficit into a 13 point win. Dayton forced 12 second-half turnovers and limited themselves to just 5 second-half turnovers. Overall, UD had 13 turnovers while Central Michigan had 19 turnovers. Dayton was able to covert those 19 turnovers into 27 points off turnovers.

The Flyers, who came into the game averaging an Atlantic 10 best 18.9 assists per game, were able to dish out 27 assists. Dayton also shot a blistering 10-of-16 (63%) from beyond the arc and 39-of-78 (50%) overall from the field. Central Michigan shot 7-of-21 (33%) from the three and 32-of-73 (44%) from the field.

The Flyers are winners of four in a row since their last loss against Central Michigan. UD is back in action on Thursday Jan. 2 as they take on the Wright State Raiders in their final non-conference game. Tip-off from UD Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. UD is partnering with St. Vincent de Paul for a food drive. Bring a non-perishable canned food item and get a $1 ticket for the game.
