MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team (2-4) fell 94-91 to Central Michigan Thursday night at McGuirk Arena. The Chippewas (3-4) hit three 3-pointers in the last 21 seconds of regulation to come back for the win.
Five Flyers scored in double figures, including sophomore
Amber Deane (21 points, 10 rebounds) and senior
Cassie Sant (17 points and career-high 11 rebounds) notching double-doubles. Sant also tied her career-high for blocked shots with three. Junior
Andrea Hoover scored 21 points and had six assists and five rebounds. Junior
Ally Malott contributed 16 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore
Kelley Austria added 12 points.
CMU's Crystal Bradford scored a game-high 34 points, including the game-winning three with .2 seconds left in the game.
The Flyers fought back from a 46-40 halftime deficit and started the second period strong and jumped to a nine-point lead with 12:26 to play. UD held a nine-point lead at the final media timeout, 84-75 at the 3:56 mark.
Sant's layup with 33 seconds left in the game gave UD an 89-85 lead. Deane hit two free throws with 27 seconds left to give Dayton a 91-85 lead.
Bradford hit a three with 21 seconds left. CMU got the ball back and Taylor Johnson banked in a three high off glass with 5.8 seconds showing on the clock. The Flyers threw the ball away on the ensuing inbound. Johnson picked off the pass and found Bradford who scored the winner with .2 seconds left. The Flyers did not have enough time to get a final play off.
UD's next game is Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. vs. Washington State at UD Arena. It will be the Flyers' alumnae game with a pre-game reception and halftime reception of former UD women's basketball players.
