DAYTON, Ohio –  No. 25 University of Dayton women's basketball defeated Richmond 69-58 Saturday at UD Arena in front of 1,979 fans in its Play4Kay Cancer Awareness game.
The Flyers improve to 17-5 overall and 10-1 in Atlantic 10 action and remain in first place in the A-10 standings, while the Spiders drop to 11-14 overall and 5-7 in A-10 action.
Dayton won its 24
th consecutive home game, which is the third-longest home win streak in the nation in NCAA Division I women's basketball.
Freshman
Celeste Edwards was the star of the day for the Flyers, leading all scorers with a career-high 25 points.
Junior
Andrea Hoover added 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Junior
Ally Malott was one point from reaching a double-double with her nine points and game-high 14 rebounds. Junior
Tiffany Johnson also had four assists.
The Flyers led 32-17 at the half after Richmond jumped to a 4-0 lead to start the game. The Flyers led by as many as 17 points, but the Spiders clawed back into the game and got within six points, 50-44, with 8:40 left in the second half. Richmond capitalized on UD's 20 turnovers and outscored Dayton 19-4 in points off turnovers.
Dayton won the battle of the boards 42-30. The Flyers also shot 50.9 percent from the field, including 41.7 percent from three-point range, while holding the Spiders to just 37.1 percent from the field and 30.0 percent from three-point range.
 Dayton will make up its game with Saint Louis Monday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. The Flyers will go directly to Philadelphia for their game at La Salle on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. UD returns home for a game against Saint Joseph's on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. in an ESPNU nationally-televised game. It will be a WHITE OUT and the Flyers will celebrate Senior Day following the game.
