DAYTON’S RYAN BASS OUT FOR THE REMAINDER OF SEASON

It Is Hoped Flyer Graduate Transfer Will Remain Involved In The Program

DAYTON -- University of Dayton point guard Ryan Bass will sit out the rest of the season due to concerns related to his developing concussion-related symptoms the day after Tuesday's Dayton game with Ole Miss.

"I feel bad for Ryan, but his health has to be everyone's first concern," Flyer coach Archie Miller said.  "I'm hoping he will stay connected with program and go through Senior Day.  He can continue to be a positive factor with us.  He's just that kind of person."

Bass, a Dayton native, played three seasons at Oakland and earned his degree last spring.  After returning to Dayton, he joined the UD program to use his final season of eligibility while attending grad school.

Just before the Flyers' exhibition game in early November, Bass suffered a concussion in practice that sidelined him until Dayton's game with UIC on Nov. 29.  The backup guard then saw action in the subsequent eight games, averaging 3.1 points a game in 9.5 minutes per contest.

But the morning after Tuesday's Ole Miss game, he woke showing symptoms of another concussion.  During the game he was knocked to the floor while playing defense.  Even though he did not hit his head, he was examined when he came out of the game.  He did not re-enter the game, but did remain on the bench.

After developing the concussion-like symptoms, Bass was examined and the possibility of further injury brought on the decision to remove Bass from the active roster.

Dayton opens Atlantic 10 play Saturday afternoon at home vs. Duquesne.
