DAYTON – The University of Dayton used a 25-7 run over the first eight minutes of the second half to beat the University of North Florida 86-71 in front of a crowd of 12,383 Saturday at UD Arena.
Dayton had five players score double figures, led by
Charles Cooke's career-high 24 points.
Scoochie Smith added 14 points,
Steve McElvene had 14 (with 14 rebounds),
Kendall Pollard added 11 and
Darrell Davis 10.
Beau Beech led UNF with 18 points on six-for-eight shooting from beyond the arc.
GAME BREAKDOWN
• Fresh off making a school record 19 three-pointers Wednesday at LSU, the Ospreys make four of their first six treys to lead 20-13 with 12:10 left in the first half.
• The Flyers would not take the lead for good until 40 seconds before halftime, and led at the break 38-35.
• Points in the paint proved to be the way the Flyers would take advantage winning the battle 46 to 18.
• Dayton shot a season-high .548 from the field (34-62), including .643 (18-28) in the second half.
• UD also won the battle of the boards 41-31.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Dayton moves to 6-1 on the season and has a 26-game home winning streak. That is currently tied for the eighth-longest streak in Division I.

Charles Cooke had 24 points, his best as a Flyer. In addition, he had five assists (his previous high was 4).
• Cooke also made his mark defensively in the second half. After Beau Beech scored 15 points in the first half, Cooke was switched to him. Beech scored just three in the second half.
• In addition to Cooke, a number of Flyers set career highs tonight.
Kendall Pollard had eight assists (against just one turnover), doubling his previous high.

Steve McElvene showcased what the fans had been waiting to see as he posted a career highs in points (14), rebounds (16), blocks (4), and assists (2).
