Andrea Hoover made her 222nd career three-pointer to make Dayton women's basketball history, passing Stephanie Miller's record of most three-point field goals.
The Flyers improve to 19-5 on the season, and 10-2 in the Atlantic 10. The Hawks drop to 8-16 on the year, and 4-8 in conference action.
Three Flyers scored in double figures as Hoover led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds. Senior
Ally Malott contributed 15 points and seven rebounds and freshman
Jenna Burdette added a career-high 14 points. On the night, Dayton was 23-of-28 from the line and shot 51.9 percent from the floor. The Flyers had 42 rebounds to the Hawks' 29.
Dayton started the game off strong with five of its first nine points from Burdette. Similar to the Flyers' last victory against Richmond, they were red hot in the first half as they shot 17-of-25 (68%) from the field with 22 points from inside the paint. In addition to its offensive performance, Dayton's solid defense held Saint Joseph's to only 33% field-goal shooting in the first half. The Flyers also out-rebounded the Hawks, 18-15, and began the second half with the lead, 44-32.
In the second half, Dayton shot 16-of-17 (94.1%) from the free throw line and finished the game shooting 51.9 percent from the field. Dayton's defensive effort held SJU to a 34.5 percent shooting percentage. The Flyers were strong on the boards and added 31 defensive rebounds in the game. All 11 dressed Flyers saw game action.
Saint Joseph's was led by Sarah Fairbanks who finished with 22 points, along with Natasha Cloud who added 21 points.
Dayton will travel to New York this Wednesday, Feb. 18 to face Fordham at 7 p.m. The Rams are 9-2 in in the Atlantic 10 conference.
