#UDSB DROPS TWO TODAY AT PURPLE AND GOLD CHALLENGE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Dayton softball team (4-7) dropped their first two games in the Purple and Gold Challenge hosted by Lipscomb University on Saturday.  The Flyers struggled offensively in both games but had a solid day on the defensive end with no errors.

Game 1 Lipscomb 3 Dayton 0

Dayton started out the first inning with two hits.  Lipscomb (7-9) started off hot with two runs off of three hits in the bottom of the first.
 
Kennedy Haynes went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double in the second inning.  Tiffany Ricks singled to center field in the third and ended up going 1-for-3 at the plate against the Bison.

Lipscomb scored in the bottom of the third and took a 3-0 lead.
 
Gabrielle Snyder (1-2) was credited with the loss for the Flyers.  She pitched a complete game for the Flyers, where she threw a solid 6.0 innings.  Snyder gave up three runs on seven hits, walked one and fanned five.

Game 2 Western Kentucky 3 Dayton 0

The Flyers and Western Kentucky (8-3) remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Western's Shawna Sadler ripped a triple to left field, knocking in two runs.  The Lady Toppers then scored another run in the fifth.

Dayton struggled offensively in game two and in the end fell 3-0 to the Lady Toppers.  Tiffany Ricks went 1-for-3 at the plate against Western Kentucky.

Western Kentucky pitcher Miranda Kramer had a solid day on the mound for the Lady Toppers pitching 7.0 innings allowing one hit, walking three and fanning 12.

Manda Cash (1-1) threw a complete game for the Flyers against the Lady Toppers.  She pitched 6.0 innings, giving up three runs on five hits.  Cash walked two and struck out four.

The Flyers will face Akron and Lipscomb tomorrow to finish out play in the Purple and Gold Challenge.
