SOFTBALL DROPS FIRST TWO GAMES IN KENNESAW CLASSIC

Dayton Falls To Tennessee And Kennsaw State On Opening Day

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Flyers dropped their first two games on their first day of the 2015 season.  In game one they faced No. 13 Tennessee followed by game two against host Kennesaw State. 

GAME ONE: No. 13 Tennessee 9, Dayton 0
Tennessee (2-0) turned on the bats in the third inning when offensive stand-out Annie Aldrete and Megan Geer both singled.  But in the fourth inning Rainey Gaffin hit a grand slam and Tennessee didn't look back. Junior Kathryn Hess caught Shaliyah Geathers stealing, throwing her out at third from the plate.  Katie Ryan and Tiffany Ricks who lead the team last season with a .375 batting average both went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Kayla English (0-1) pitched 3.1 innings, and struck out four.  Freshman Manda Cash closed out the game for the Flyers facing eight batters and only allowing one run. 

GAME TWO: Kennesaw State 12, Dayton 6
After Kennesaw State (2-0) scored four runs in the first inning, Dayton freshman Jaclyn Kweder singled and got an RBI and the Flyers answered back with two runs in the top of the second.  Kennesaw State came out on fire in the bottom of the second inning recording eight runs on 10 hits including back-to-back triples.  Gabrielle Snyder and Jaclyn Kweder both went 2-for-3 at the plate.  Kweder had two RBI's against the Owls. 

Gabrielle Snyder (0-1) is credited with the loss.  Snyder faced 18 batters and gave up 12 runs.  Freshman Manda Cash had another clutch relief performance as she closed out the game for the Flyers for the second time tonight.  She faced eight batters, gave up one hit, walked one and struck out four.
