DAYTON REACHES A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH 56-52 WIN OVER RHODE ISLAND

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Dyshawn Pierre registered 10 points and nine rebounds as the Dayton Flyers grinded out a 56-52 victory over the Rhode Island Rams in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals.

Jordan Sibert added 12 points, five assists and five steals as UD will face the VCU Rams for the A-10 Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m.

All six Flyers who scored had between eight and 12 points in the game.  Dayton won despite shooting just 2-for-13 from three-point range.  Former walk-on Bobby Wehrli knocked down both treys to extend Dayton's strings of consecutive games with at least one three-point to 216 games.

Dayton's defense proved to be stellar forcing 21 Rhode Island turnovers. The Flyers also had 36 points in the paint and 11 steals.  Rhode Island's 52 points were the Rams' lowest point total of the year.

The Flyers took the lead for good with three minutes to go on a pair of Sibert reverse layups around a pair of free throws by Kyle Davis.  URI cut the lead to two on a Jared Terrell three-pointer, but Davis responded with another pair of freebies, and then Pierre came up with a steal on Rhode Island's last possession.

This will be the fourth time in the program's history the Flyers will play in the A-10 Championship game. Dayton has won the championship once (2003), placed second twice (2004 and 2011).

Dayton improved to 25-7 overall with the win.
