DAYTON DEFEATS THE DAVIDSON WILDCATS AT HOME, 80-74

K. Davis, Smith, Pollard, & Pierre All Contribute Double-Digit Scoring Nights

DAYTON - The University of Dayton Flyers (13-3, 3-1 A-10) defeated the Davidson Wildcats (10-5, 2-2 A-10) Tuesday, using a 19-0 run in the second half to key the victory.

GAME BREAKDOWN
• Davidson took an early lead, scoring the first five points of the game. Flyer point guard Scoochie Smith then brought the Flyers into the lead after two consecutive three-pointers.
• Neither team could shake each other in the first half. There were nine lead changes within the first 10 minutes, 4:32 of the half was spent with a tied score, and the two teams' point totals were never more than 5 points apart. Dayton led the half for 7:34, and Davidson led for 8:02.
• The half ended with Davidson in the lead, 36-33.
• The close score continued well into the second half. The two teams remained within five points of each other until the 11:40 mark.
• After Kyle Davis scored a 3-pointer and a layup consecutively, the Flyers pulled ahead and went on a 19-0 run gain the upper hand.
• Davidson came back to pull to within four points (78-74) with 14 seconds to go. 
• Smith sealed the win with a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Scoochie Smith led UD with 18 points, five more points than he scored in his last three games combined.  He also had four assists.
• Dyshawn Pierre (16 points), Kendall Pollard (14) and Kyle Davis (14) joined Smith in double figures. 
• Davis scored 11 in the second half, eight coming in just over a two minute span during UD's big run.
• Pierre also had 10 rebounds for his first double-double since returning on Dec. 30.
• It was Pollards first game back after missing two contest with a strained right achilles tendon.
• Off the bench, Ryan Mikesell scored eight points in 16 minutes and Steve McElvene had seven rebounds in 18 minutes.
• The A-10's leading scorer, Jack Gibbs of Davidson, led all scorers with 31 points.  He scored 18 in the first half, was shut out for the first 12:28 of the second half, and then scored 13 points in the final 7:32 of the game.
• Dayton played without leading scorer Charles Cooke, who strained an oblique muscle in practice on Dec. 11.  Cooke is day-to-day.
• This was the seventh time this season the Flyers score 80 or more points, after doing it just twice last year.
