DAYTON - The No. 25 University of Dayton Flyers (12-2, 2-0 A-10) defeated the Massachusetts Minutemen (8-6, 1-1 A-10) on Wednesday night at UD Arena by a score of 93-63.
For the second straight home game, the Flyers had six players reach double figures in scoring, led by Charles Cooke's 18 points.
Dyshawn Pierre made his first start of the season and led the team with eight rebounds and also chipped in 11 points.  Pierre started in the place of Kendall Pollard, who was injured during practice (strained right Achilles) on Tuesday.  Pollard is listed as day-to-day.

GAME BREAKDOWN
• The Flyers led 17-12 with 12:50 to go in the first half when Dayton went on an 8-0 run capped off by a tip-in from Steve McElvene to bring its lead into double digits for the first time in the game.
• With Dayton extending its lead to 28-14 after a 3-pointer from Scoochie Smith, the Minutemen responded with a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 28-20 with 5:30 remaining in the half, but that would be the closest margin UMass would get for the remainder of the game.
• Dayton answered by outscoring UMass 12-4 in the closing minutes of the first half, with eight of those points coming from Steve McElvene. 
• McElvene led all scorers in the first half with 12 points.
• Dayton led UMass 40-24 at halftime and the Minutemen were unable to cut into the 16 point deficit for the entirety of the second half.
• Charles Cooke scored 14 second half points to help extend the Flyers lead after halftime.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• This was the second straight home game that Dayton had six players reach double figures in scoring.  Charles Cooke led the way with 18 points, Steve McElvene added 13, the trio of Dyshawn Pierre, Kyle Davis and John Crosby each scored 11, and Sam Miller pitched in 10 points.
• Eight different Flyers knocked down a 3-pointer including two apiece from Charles Cooke, Sam Miller and John Crosby
• Dayton made its first 13 free throws of the game and finished 14-18 (78%).
• Dayton is one of just four teams in the A-10 to start out 2-0 in the conference.  The other three are St. Bonaventure, Rhode Island and VCU.
• Freshmen John Crosby (11 points) and Sam Miller (10 points) both set new career-highs in scoring.  Crosby also set a new personal best with a game-high with five assists.
• Trey Davis and Donte Clark shared the game-high scoring honors with 21 points apiece for UMass.

• The Flyers will travel to Philadelphia to face La Salle (4-8, 0-2 A-10) on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. ET.
• Dayton returns home on Tuesday, Jan. 11 when Davidson makes its first visit to UD Arena in 43 years.  Game time is 8 p.m. ET.
