STORRS, Conn. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team faced off against defending national champions and second-ranked University of Connecticut Tuesday night in Storrs, Conn.
The Flyers (2-2) were unable to stick with the Huskies (4-0) as UConn shot 48.7% from the field.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter – Dayton 13, UConn 22
The Flyers jumped out to an early advantage with a couple of clutch buckets to take a 10-8 lead going into the first media timeout. Junior
Jenna Burdette scored five of those 10 points as the Flyers were ahead of the Huskies from the beginning. UConn answered with a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 17-10 lead. The hosts extended that margin and went into the second quarter with a 22-13 advantage.
2nd Quarter – Dayton 31, UConn 51
UConn out-scored Dayton 9-4 to start the second before a layup by sophomore
Lauren Cannatelli narrowed the gap and forced the Huskies to call a timeout. UD went into the media down 31-19. UConn maintained the double-digit lead throughout the second quarter and pushed it as much as 22 at the 1:52 mark. Burdette and Cannatelli led the Flyers in the first half with 10 points each.
3rd Quarter – Dayton 51, UConn 72
The Flyers came out strong in the second half and out-scored the Huskies 12-8 in the early stages. By the media timeout, UD had closed the margin to 61-43 and had pulled as close to 16 points of UConn previously. The Huskies responded though and pushed their lead to as much as 24 with 1:48 to go in the third. Freshman

4th Quarter – Dayton 65, UConn 98
The fourth quarter started with nine unanswered points by the Huskies, forcing a Flyer timeout as the margin ballooned to 30 points at 81-51. Dayton didn't get its first bucket of the quarter until the 6:47 mark. Midway through the final quarter, it was still a 30-point difference at 87-57. That would be all the Huskies would need to hold off the Flyers to remain undefeated.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Flyers shot 36.8% from the field and faired even better from three-point range, shooting 37.5%.
- UD was led by Burdette and Cannatelli, who both had 15 points in the contest.
- Senior Saicha Grant-Allen led the Flyers with seven rebounds while freshman Jayla Scaife chipped in five boards.
- Redshirt junior Alex Harris had a strong defensive performance with a career-high five blocks to go with three rebounds and four points.
- UD only shot nine free throws in the game, hitting six, while UConn shot 22 and made 16.
- The Huskies had four players in double figures, led by Katie Lou Samuelson's 29 points.

- UConn scored 50 points in the paint compared to Dayton's 30 points.
