WASHINGTON, D.C. - Despite a late-came surge, the University of Dayton women's basketball team came up short at George Washington Sunday afternoon, falling to the Colonials, 72-62. The loss moves Dayton to 13-10 on the season and 6-6 in Atlantic 10 action while George Washington improves t0 21-4 on the year and 11-1 in league action.
GAME BREAKDOWN
• 1Q: Dayton opened the first quarter with an 8-2 run but George Washington was able to even the score at 11 points apiece with just over three minutes to play. The Colonials used a 12-0 run to take over the lead at 16-11 and ended the quarter ahead by three, 18-15.
• 2Q: George Washington stretched its advantage to eight, 25-17, but sophomore Jenna Burdette answered with six-straight points. Freshman Lauren Cannatelli made three of four free-throw attempts and sank a long-range jumper to pull the Flyers to within two, 34-32, but the Colonials fired off six points in the final 1:40 of the quarter. At halftime, George Washington was up six, 38-32.
• 3Q: Dayton got buckets from Burdette and senior Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova to start the second half but George Washington was then able to hold UD without a field goal for six-and-a-half minutes. For the quarter, the Colonials out-scored the Flyers, 20-13, and held a 58-45 lead after 30 minutes of action.
• 4Q: The Colonials scored two quick baskets to open the fourth quarter but the Flyers used a 7-0 run to cut the GW lead to single digits, 64-55, with just under five minutes to play. Dayton was able to pull within eight, 66-58, after back-to-back three-point baskets but George Washington would hold on for the 72-62 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Burdette scored a career-high 23 points for the second-consecutive game after going 7-of-14 from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 from the line. She also dished out three assists and grabbed four rebounds.
• Cannatelli added 19 points after a 3-of-6 afternoon behind the arc to go with 8-for-10 made free throws.
• Cornelie-Sigmundova chipped in 11 points to go with five blocks, four rebounds and two assists.
• George Washington was led by Kelli Prange with 16 points while two Colonials grabbed seven rebounds each.

• Dayton out-rebounded George Washington, 40-38, but the Flyers committed 20 turnovers to the Colonials' 12.
