Game Breakdown:1Q: The Flyers controlled the first quarter of action thanks to a strong defensive showing. Dayton got off to an 8-2 lead and held Duquesne to just 1-10 shooting through the first five minutes of action. The Dukes started off 0-6 from long range before Robinson sank one to even the score at 8 points apiece. The Flyers then went on an 8-0 run highlighted by threes from Canatelli and freshman Ashley Parkinson. Dayton ended the quarter up 17-11. Duquesne shot just 3-20 (15%) during the period compared to Dayton's 42.9 percent from the field, sinking 6-of-14 shots.
2Q: In the second quarter, Duquesne started to find its shooting touch. The Flyers extended their lead early in the period to 11, 22-11, but the Dukes responded with a 13-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 24-22. The Dukes shot 53% (8-15) during the period compared to a Flyer cold streak as the team shot just 23.5 percent (4-17). Robinson led all scorers in the half with 16 points while Grant-Allen led the Flyers with seven. The Flyers were out-rebounded 29-9 in the half. Duquesne had seven offensive rebounds compared to Dayton's one.
3Q: Dayton and Duquesne traded baskets for most of the quarter with neither team able to gain much separation from the other. Dayton hit two three pointers and shot 50 percent (6-12) from the field. The Flyers outscored the Dukes, 19-16 in the quarter and headed into the fourth with a 48-47 advantage. Cannatelli and Grant-Allen both scored five points in the period.
4Q: To start the period Dayton extended its lead to 56-50. The Dukes then responded with a 9-0 run to go up three with 4:23 to play. The Flyers cut the deficit to one, 61-60, with 1:27 left. Duquesne headed out on a fast break but sophomore
JaVonna Layfield hustled back and had a huge block—much to the crowd's approval. Dayton got the ball back with a chance to take the lead with 36 seconds to play. Grant-Allen was fouled but hit only the second of two free throws to tie the game at 61 all. Duquesne had the ball with only a four second differential between the game clock and shot clock. The Dukes ran the clock down but had their shot attempt blocked by Grant-Allen. They were called for a shot clock violation and gave Dayton the ball for a chance at the win with 3.7 seconds left. Dayton however, turned the ball over and the game headed to OT tied at 61.
OT: Duquesne's Deva'Nyar Workman had the first basket of overtime to give the Dukes a 63-61 lead. Cannatelli then drilled a deep three from the top of the key after an offensive rebound by Burdette. The three gave Dayton a 64-63 lead, which only lasted for a brief moment. The very next possession Duquesne's Robinson responded with a three of her own to give the Dukes a 66-65 lead which they wouldn't relinquish. Dayton ended up dropping the contest by a score of 76-72. The Flyers were 2-8 from the free-throw line during the overtime period.
Inside the Numbers:•   Grant-Allen recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
•   Burdette had an untraditional double-double with 10 rebounds and 14 assists. Her 14 assists tied the Dayton all-time record for dimes in a game. The former player who Burdette now shares the record with, Pam Palmer, was in attendance today being honored with the 1983-84 team at halftime.
•   Cannatelli led the Flyers in scoring with 18 points, nailing 4-of-10 three-point attempts.
•   Duquesne's Robinson led all scorers on the day with 30 points
•   There were 11 lead changes during the game with Dayton leading for as much as 22:35 of game time and by as many as 11 points.
Key Stats:•   The "free ones" proved costly for the Flyers today. Dayton hit just 17-of-30 attempts from the free-throw line (56.7%) while Duquesne went 18-22 (81.8%).
•   Dayton shot 34.8percent from the field hitting 23-of-66 attempts. The Flyers did shoot 45 percent from behind the arc, converting on 9-of-20 attempts from long range.
•   Duquesne shot 31 percent from the field hitting 24-of-76 shots. The Dukes made 10 three pointers on 31 attempts, averaging out to 32.3 percent.
•   Duquesne won the rebounding battle, 54-48. The biggest difference came on the offensive glass where the Dukes secured 17 offensive boards compared to the Flyers' 11.
•   The Flyers dominated the transition game, scoring 19 points on fast breaks while holding the Dukes to zero. Dayton's bench also out-scored Duquesne bench, 17-5.
