RICHMOND, Va. -
Scoochie Smith scored a career-high 26 points as the Dayton Flyers earned an 85-84 road win against the Richmond Spiders.
Charles Cooke added 21 points and five rebounds, while
Dyshawn Pierre added another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Flyers hadn't won at Richmond since 2004, a streak of six games.
Dayton improved to 23-6 overall and 13-4 in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers have already clinched a double-bye in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship finishing in the top four of the league.
GAME BREAKDOWN- Dayton started the game off strong up 8-2 in the opening minutes, but the Spiders went on a 14-3 run midway through the half and were up 37-32 at the break.
- Dayton regained the lead 41-40 four minutes into the second half.
- However, the Spiders went on a 16-3 run and extended their lead to 58-48 with 11:23 to play.
- Dayton regained the lead, 69-64, fueled by a 16-3 run of their own punctuated with a Cooke three.
- Cooke added another huge three to put the Flyers ahead 74-68 with 2:01 left in regulation.
- Richmond cut the deficit to 81-77 with 33 seconds to play. Pierre added two free throws to push the lead to six once again.
- Dayton made 8 of its last 11 free throws in the final minute of the game.
- The Spiders' T.J. Cline, led all scorers with 36 points and hit a three with 0.1 seconds left to cut the deficit to one.
