DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton softball team opened up Atlantic 10 play on Friday evening with a marathon of a game against Saint Joseph's, falling 4-3 in 11 innings at UD Softball Stadium.
Scoring BreakdownBottom 1st – Dayton got the scoring rolling right away as freshman
Lisa Tassi launched her first career home run over the left field fence with two runners on to give the Flyers a 3-0 lead.
Top 3rd – Saint Joseph's loaded the bases in the inning and got an RBI groundout to cut into the UD lead, 3-1.
Top 7th – Thanks to a Dayton miscue and an RBI double the Hawks tied the game at 3-3 in their final at-bat.
Top 11th – With two outs in the inning and a one ball, two strike count, Cyndi Wilson hit her fourth home run of the year for SJU and gave the visitors a 4-3 advantage that they'd hold on to.
Key StatsSophomore
Manda Cash tossed all 11 innings for the Flyers, allowing three earned runs while walking only three and striking out 12.
The Columbus, Ohio native also turned in a single at the plate, her first career hit.
Tassi's first inning home run was the first of her career and instantly tied her career high for RBI in a game.
Senior
Krista Gustafson finished the game 2-for-5 with a double. The two base hit performance from Gustafson was her first of the season.
