FLYERS FALL TO FORDHAM 1-0 IN 12 INNINGS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In the second game of the University of Dayton softball team's Saturday, the Flyers battled top-seeded Fordham University in a classic pitchers' duel, with the Rams eventually pulling out a 12-inning thriller 1-0 at the George Washington University Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.

The Flyers made multiple highlight-worthy plays during the course of the game, but couldn't string enough hits together to knock off the tournament's top seed.

Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 12th – With a runner aboard and two away, Sydney Canessa drove home the game-winning run with a double to the centerfield wall that gave Fordham the 1-0 victory.

Key Stats
Sophomore Manda Cash tossed 11 and two-thirds innings and struck out six.

Junior Gabrielle Snyder had two of Dayton's four hits, going 2-for-5 with a double in the game.

Dayton finishes the 2016 season with a 27-21-1 record, becoming the first Flyer softball team to go above .500 in back-to-back seasons. The senior class of Kirsten Bartlett, Emily Froment, Katelyn Gibson, Krista Gustafson, Kennedy Haynes and Kathryn Hess leaves UD as the program's all-time winningest class.
