#UDWBB Takes On Virginia Sunday At UD Arena

The Flyers Are 3-0 On The Season

DAYTON - Dayton will host the University of Virginia Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at UD Arena. It will be Military Appreciation Day for the Flyers.

The game will be televised on Spectrum Sports Channel.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the game with an undefeated record of 3-0 and a 1-0 home mark. Head coach Shauna Green is in her second season at the helm of the Flyers after going 22-10 in her first campaign last year. The WBCA National Rookie Coach of the Year returns an experienced squad with three seniors, six juniors, and three starters.

As a team, Dayton is averaging 77.0 points per game and holding opponents to just 61.0 points. The Flyers are shooting 43.1 percent from the floor, 32.7 percent from three-point range, and 68.2 percent from the free throw line. UD has a +12 rebounding margin and a +2.7 turnover margin.

The Flyers are led by reigning A-10 Co-Player of the Week and Maine Tournament MVP JaVonna Layfield, who is averaging 13.7 points and 13.0 rebounds per game. Senior Jenna Burdette leads the team with 15.7 points and 3.3 assists each game while sophomore Jayla Scaife is contributing 14.0 points each contest.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA
Virginia comes into the contest with a 1-2 record overall and an 0-1 record on the road. The Cavaliers are led by seventh-year head coach Joanne Boyle. UVa has a win over Central Connecticut State and losses to Mississippi State and Georgia.

Overall, the Cavaliers are scoring 72.3 points per game and holding opponents to 63.7 points each contest. Virginia also benefits from a positive rebounding margin and fewer turnovers. The Cavs are shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 42.5 percent from behind the arc, and 65.4 percent from the charity stripe.

Leading the way for UVa is Dominique Toussaint, who averages 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists each game. Jocelyn Willoughby is adding 14.0 points each contest while Felicia Aiyeotan is contributing 8.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per outing.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton squared off against Morgan State in its home opener Friday and picked up a 88-52 win over the Lady Bears. There were six Flyers in double figures scoring wise and UD outscored MSU 25-5 in the third quarter alone.

Virginia suffered its second loss of the season on Thursday with a 64-61 defeat to Georgia at home. The Cavaliers closed the gap to just one with a three pointer with just eight seconds left, but a pair of late free throws put the game out of reach for the hosts.

THE SERIES
The Flyers and Cavaliers have met just one time previously, last season, at the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va. Host Virginia defeated Dayton 66-56 in the tournament finale.

FLYERS WIN MAINE-TIP OFF TOURNAMENT
Dayton opened the season by winning the 2017 Maine Tip-Off Tournament, picking up victories over Harvard and Tulane. Senior JaVonna Layfield was named tournament MVP and all-tournament team, while sophomore Jayla Scaife was also named to the all-tournament squad.

LAYFIELD A-10 CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JaVonna Layfield earned the first conference accolades of the regular season on Nov. 13, earning A-10 Co-Player of the Week honors. The senior forward averaged 15.0 points and 16.0 rebounds per game over the two-game stretch at the Maine Tip-Off Tournament. She highlighted the week with a 20 point, 22 rebound performance against Harvard.

The Flyers will head back out on the road to take on Toledo Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. at Savage Arena. Dayton's next home game will be on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. at UD Arena.
