Flyers Host No. 23 Green Bay For School Day Wednesday

Dayton Hosts The Top Defense In The Nation

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns home to host Green Bay on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. as part of School Day at UD Arena. The Flyers expect a packed crowd of over 9,000 fans on hand as they take on the Phoenix.

The Arena will be collecting Can Goods during the game in receptacles outside of the entrances. Simon Sez is on hand for the halftime show as well.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers enter the contest with a 5-2 record overall and a 3-0 home mark, winning their last 11 games at UD Arena. Dayton looks to get back into the win column heading into the final exam break.

Head coach Shauna Green is in her second season at the helm of the Flyers after going 22-10 in her first campaign last year. The WBCA National Rookie Coach of the Year returns an experienced squad with three seniors, six juniors, and three starters.

As a team, Dayton is averaging 69.9 points per game and holding opponents to a 58.9 mark, good enough for a +11.0 scoring advantage. The Flyers also have a +12.0 rebounding margin and rank nine in the nation in rebounds per game. UD shoots 39.9 percent from the field, 28.8 percent from three-point range, and 68.6 percent from the free throw line.

The Flyers are led by senior Jenna Burdette, who ranks ninth in the league in scoring with 15.0 points per game while sophomore Jayla Scaife chips in 12.3 points each contest. Senior JaVonna Layfield is a double-double threat every game with 9.7 points and 10.9 rebounds.

SCOUTING GREEN BAY
Green Bay enters the game with a 6-1 record overall and a 1-0 away mark while boasting the top defense in the nation, allowing just 45.4 points per game. Head coach Kevin Borseth is in his sixth season in charge of Green Bay.

The Phoenix are scoring 59.0 points per game, pairing with the No. 1 defense in Division I is good enough for a +13.6 scoring margin. Green Bay shoots 43.6 percent overall, 27.8 percent from behind the arc, and 63.3 percent from the charity stripe.

Leading the way for the Phoenix is Jessica Lindstrom, who is scoring 13.7 points per game and grabbing 7.7 rebounds each contest. Allie LeClaire is adding 11.3 points while Jen Wellnitz leads the team in assists and steals.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton suffered its second loss of the season with a 72-66 defeat at Quinnipiac last Tuesday, against a 2017 NCAA Sweet 16 participant. The Flyers rallied from down 16, but came up just short in the fourth.

Green Bay earned its sixth win of the season with a 63-55 victory over No. 23 Marquette on Saturday at home. The Phoenix were led by four players scoring in double figures and shot 46.6 percent from the field in the win.

THE SERIES
The Flyers and Phoenix have played three times previously with Dayton winning two matches at home and Green Bay winning its home game as well. The last meeting was Dec. 30, 2015 in Wisconsin with the Phoenix coming out on top 68-52.
