KINGSTON, R.I. –
Xeyrius Williams hit a game-winning three-pointer with seven seconds in regulation as the Dayton Flyers rallied for a 75-74 victory over the Rhode Island Rams.
Williams finished the night with 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field.
Kendall Pollard led Dayton with 17 points, while
Charles Cooke added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Kyle Davis scored 10 points and
Scoochie Smith added seven points and seven rebounds.
The Flyers improved to 19-5 overall and 10-2 in the Atlantic 10.

- Williams was 2 of 4 from three-point range, both conversions coming with under 19 seconds to play.
FIRST HALF – Rhode Island 36, Dayton 30
- UD opened the game 5 of 22 from the field and trailed by as many as 11 to start the contest.
- Pollard made 5 of 6 free throws and hit a three-pointer late in the half. He led Dayton with 10 points at halftime.
- Josh Cunningham entered midway through the first half, seeing his first action since he tore a ligament in his ankle in the second game of the season at Alabama. He picked up two quick fouls and returned to the bench.
- Dayton finished the opening 20 minutes just 8 of 29 from the field, but converted 10 free throw attempts.
SECOND HALF – Dayton 75, Rhode Island 74
- Dayton started the half on a 7-0 run and took its first lead of the night, 37-36, with 17:13 remaining.
- The Flyers took a 55-52 lead, but the Rams went on a 7-0 run of their own to regain the advantage, 59-55 with 5:39 left.
- UD tied the game, but URI had a four-point swing with a free throw, offensive rebound and three to go up 63-59 at the 3:53 mark.
- Pollard tied the game at 68-68, but on the ensuing Ram possession, Kyle Davis fouled E.C. Matthews on a three-pointer. He sank one of three shots, but put Rhode Island up 69-68.
- With UD trailing 71-69 with 34 seconds left in regulation, Cooke had a chance to tie, but missed a shot from the left side. The Rams extended their lead to four with two free throws.
- Williams sank a three with 18.9 seconds left to cut the deficit to one, 73-72.
- After one made free throw, it set up Williams again for a three from the wing to put UD ahead 75-74 with eight seconds remaining.
- After the ball got knocked out of bounds with 1.4 seconds left, the Rams turned the ball over on the out-of-bounds play allowing the Flyers to pick up the key road win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The senior class of Kyle Davis, Smith, Pollard, Cooke, Joey Gruden and Jeremiah Bonsu tied the record for most wins for a class in UD history with 97.
- UD won the rebounding battle 36-34 and had 12 offensive boards.
- The bench also proved to be a big component for Dayton's victory, out-scoring Rhode Island 24-3.
