This Is The Third Atlantic 10 Regular Season Title For The Flyers

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team defeated Saint Louis Wednesday, 68-62, in an Atlantic 10 regular season title clenching showdown.

The Flyers (19-9, 13-3 A-10) finish the regular season tied atop the A-10 standings, but earned the No. 1 seed thanks to a tiebreaker advantage over George Washington. The Billikens (22-7, 12-4 A-10) earn the No. 4 seed after going into the matchup with title hopes as well.
 
KEY MOMENT
The first two minutes of overtime - After going 0-of-11 from the field in the fourth quarter, the Flyers came out hot in overtime, shooting 100% from the field in the first two minutes. This hot start allowed the Flyers to pull away at the foul line and win the game as well as the A-10 regular season title.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter – Dayton 18, Saint Louis 17
  • It was a slow start for both sides offensively
  • Sophomore Lauren Cannatelli opened Dayton's scoring with a three pointer
  • Junior Jenna Burdette returned to action with a clutch three pointer at 5:41 to give the Flyers an 11-9 lead
  • Grant-Allen finished with a big bucket through traffic with 4:05 left for a 13-12 lead
  • After falling behind, Dayton reclaimed the lead with five seconds left
  • Cannatelli led the Flyers with eight points shooting 100% from three-point range
 
2nd Quarter – Dayton 34, Saint Louis 32
  • Saint Louis took a 19-18 lead with 9:16 left
  • Freshman Jayla Scaife's basket gave the Flyers a 21-20 advantage with 7:36 left
  • Saint Louis retook lead with 1:53
  • 5-of-5 FG streak for Saint Louis from 4:30 to 1:00 remaining
  • Dayton remained cold, shooting 1-of-10 from the field in final minutes
  • Cannatelli's three pointer with 17 seconds gave Dayton a 34-32 lead
  • Cannatelli led with 11 points, while redshirt junior Alex Harris and senior Saicha Grant-Allen contributed six rebounds at halftime

  • A bucket and a free throw by Alex Harris at 7:38 started the scoring for the Flyers
  • Dayton boasted a 10-point lead (47-37) with 5:24 left
  • SLU went on a 6-0 run from 5:10 mark to 3:30 remaining
  • Grant-Allen breaks Flyers cold spell with layup at the 3:20 mark
  • Dayton shot 34 percent at end of third quarter
  • Senior Kelley Austria led all scorers with 13 at end of period
  • Grant-Allen contributed with nine rebounds and eight points
 
4th Quarter – Dayton 56, Saint Louis 56
  • Once again, there were no points scored until 7:46
  • Saint Louis recorded an and-one with 7:46 left
  • Dayton still scoreless through 4:14
  • Dayton shot 0-of-8 until media timeout and Saint Louis shot 1-of-9 from the field
  • Freshman Jordan Wilmoth put up two free throws off the bench to break the cold spell
  • Saint Louis banked in a three pointer to tie the game at 56-56 with 12.6 seconds left to play
  • Austria continued to lead with 15 points and Grant-Allen hauled in 15 rebounds
 
OVERTIME -  Dayton 68, Saint Louis 62
  • Grant-Allen opened with an and-one of her own with 4:14 in OT
  • Austria's three pointer gave Dayton a 61-58 lead
  • Dayton was 3-of-3 on field goals until three minutes left in overtime
  • Saint Louis hit a three pointer, making it 63-59 with 2:20 remaining
  • Flyers put away the Billikens at the free throw line, finalizing the score at 68-62
  • Grant-Allen finished the game with a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds
  • Austria led Dayton in scoring with 16 points
