FLYERS DEFEAT RICHMOND FOR 11TH STRAIGHT WIN

Austria's Career High Led UD To Win NO. 17

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team continued to roll through the A-10 recording their 11th straight win with a 55-39 victory over Richmond.

The Flyers (17-7, 11-1 A-10) continue their hot streak while the Spiders (11-14, 5-7 A-10) fall for the fifth time in the last seven games.

KEY MOMENT
Kelley Austria made a three with 5:26 left in the third quarter to stretch the Flyers' lead to 10. From that point forward, the lead never fell below the double-digit mark.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter – Dayton 8, Richmond 9
  • Defense and turnovers were abundant early as Richmond held a 6-3 lead halfway through the quarter.
  • Redshirt senior Kelley Austria made a three from the corner to tie it up 6-6 heading into the media timeout.
  • Senior Saicha Grant-Allen, who was honored before the game for setting the Dayton Women's Basketball record for most rebounds in a career, added to her total with three offensive rebounds in a single possession.
  • Austria led the Flyers in scoring for the quarter with five points. Grant-Allen also played a big role, contributing three points and six rebounds.
 
2nd Quarter – Dayton 24, Richmond 17
  • The Flyers came out hot with five points in the first minute of the quarter to retake the lead 13-9.
  • Dayton extended its lead heading into the media timeout by a score of 18-14 thanks to a bucket and free throw by Alex Harris.
  • The Spiders were scoreless for nearly three minutes to close out the quarter.
  • Dayton played stellar defense for the whole half, holding Richmond to a mere 6-of-28 (21%) from the field.
  • Top performers of the first half were Austria with 10 points and Grant-Allen with seven points and nine boards.
 
3rd Quarter – Dayton 43, Richmond 27
  • Junior JaVonna Layfield hit a three coming out of the break to give the Flyers a 10-point lead.
  • Dayton and Richmond exchanged baskets, but the Flyers maintained a 33-25 lead at the media timeout.
  • With three minutes left in the quarter, the Spiders had a chance to cut Dayton's lead to five, but a steal by Austria led to two points and a nine point lead.
  • A 19-point quarter helped give Dayton a comfortable 16-point advantage with one quarter left to play.
 
4th Quarter – Dayton 55, Richmond 39
  • Austria capped off a career night with her third three-pointer and ninth field goal made with 6:06 left to play.
  • The Spiders made a pair of threes, but halfway through the quarter, Dayton still led 50-36.
  • Head coach Shauna Green made substitutions late in the game and every active player ended up getting playing time.
  • Richmond called a timeout late in the game, but the Flyers' lead was too much for the Spiders to handle.

24 - Senior Kelley Austria set a new career high with 24 points.
0 – The Flyers continue to roll and still have zero losses in 2017. The Flyers have won 14 of the last 15 games.
12 – With this win over Richmond, Dayton has 12 double-digit victories on the season.
