OXFORD, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team splits its games on the second day of the Miami Invitational. Dayton outlasted Fort Wayne, 3-2, in the afternoon contest but was bested by host Miami by the same margin in the nightcap.
Dayton is now 12-11 on the season. Fort Wayne moved to 6-22 while Miami ended the weekend at 12-11 overall.
Dayton 3, Fort Wayne 2
The first three innings were scoreless for both teams but Dayton was able to get its offense going in the bottom of the fourth. The Flyers plated two runs to take a 2-0 lead over the Mastodons, which would hold until the sixth. Fort Wayne rallied to even the score with two runs of its own and the game headed into the final frame knotted at two runs apiece. The Dons were unable to plate any runs in the seventh and the Flyers took advantage of a Fort Wayne throwing error in the bottom of the frame to score the winning run.

Dayton started its second game of the day with a bang as sophomore
Kyle Davidson doubled followed by a single by Snyder. With two outs, freshman
Julia Blarr plated both runners with a single up the middle to give UD a 2-0 advantage. Miami answered in the bottom of the third, plating two runs when a walk and hit batter put two on for a one-out RedHawk double followed by another double to bring home what would prove to be the winning run. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Dayton was able to get a runner in scoring position but the rally fell short as Miami held on for the win.

Dayton is set to play a home-and-away mid-week series with Wright State this week. The Flyers will host the Raiders on Tuesday at UD Softball Stadium with first pitch set for 4 p.m. On Wednesday, Dayton will head to Fairborn for a 6 p.m. tilt at WSU Softball Field.
