DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team dropped a 10-2, five-inning decision to Ohio Wednesday evening in the Flyers' home opener. Dayton moves to 8-7 on the season while Ohio improves to 13-2 overall.

12-4 - the Bobcats out-hit the Flyers by a margin of 12 to four.

The Bobcats started strong with a four-run first inning and never looked back. Dayton got on back in the second but Ohio tacked on one in both the third and fourth. Four more runs in the top of the fifth for the Bobcats essentially put the game away. The Flyers rallied in the bottom of the frame but were only able to plate one more as the game was shortened due to the run rule.

Dayton will travel 140 miles to the south to take part in Kentucky's John Cropp Classic March 9-10. Due to impending winter weather, UD's schedule for the tournament has been adjusted to feature two games Thursday night and two more on Friday. Dayton will square off against 19th-ranked Kentucky at 6 p.m. followed by a nightcap against Drexel at approximately 8 p.m. tomorrow night. On Friday, Dayton will face Evansville at noon followed by a 2 p.m. tilt against Kent State.
