FAIRFAX, Va. - The University of Dayton softball team has been eliminated from the 2017 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship. Dayton was defeated by Saint Louis, 5-3, and host George Mason, 6-5, in the double elimination tournament.
Dayton closes out the 2017 season with an overall record of 29-27 while posting a league mark of 13-10. The 29 wins marks the third-most wins in program history.
Saint Louis 5, Dayton 3
The fourth-seeded Flyers struck first in the second inning with a sacrifice fly out but a three-spot in in the fourth by No. 5 Saint Louis put the Billikens in front, 3-1. SLU tacked on two more runs in the fifth to lead UD, 5-1. The Flyers rallied in the seventh, plating two runs, but with runners on first and second, a two-out line-out by 2017 A-10 Player of the Year
Gabrielle Snyder ended the game.
George Mason 6, Dayton 5
The Flyers again got on the board first in the elimination game, plating three in the third inning. After the host Patriots evened the score at three runs apiece in the top of the fifth, the Flyers got back in front with a RBI-single by sophomore
Kyle Davidson in the bottom of the frame. Another three-spot for Mason in the sixth effectively put the game out of reach. Dayton got one back in the bottom of the sixth but George Mason held on for the 6-5 win.
