#UDWBB Rides Strong Second Half To Win Over Davidson

The Flyers Scored 30 Points In The Fourth Quarter Alone

DAVIDSON, N.C.  – The University of Dayton's women basketball team scored 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Flyers picked up another road conference win at Davidson, 85-68.

The Flyers (16-4, 9-0 A-10) remain unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play and atop the conference standings while the Wildcats (9-13, 4-5 A-10) fall below .500 in the league.

KEY MOMENT
4th quarter –  Dayton went 11-of-16 and made 4-of-6 three-pointers in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for Davidson.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1ST Quarter: Dayton 17, Davidson 12
  • Dayton struck first with a jumper by senior Jenna Burdette at the 8:23 mark.
  • Davidson didn't get its first point until the 7:20 mark with a layup.
  • Burdette scored the first seven points for the Flyers.
  • By the media break, Dayton trailed 8-7.
  • Burdette was able to reach double digits scoring in the first quarter with 12.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 32, Davidson 29
  • The Flyers added to their lead to start the second and pulled ahead by 10 with 7:58 on the clock, 25-15.
  • Davidson was able to close the gap to four with a run of its own, 25-21.
  • Dayton suffered from a 4:24 scoring drought, but a jumper by sophomore Jayla Scaife ended the skid and kept the Flyers on top.
  • The Wildcats tied the game back up at 27-27 with 2:00 left in the quarter.
  • As time expired, Burdette threw up a three-pointer at the top of the key with a defender in her face and it bounced up and in to give Dayton the lead at the half.
  • Burdette finished the first half with 15 points, including three three-pointers.
  • The Flyers shot 41.9 percent overall while the Wildcats shot 31.4 percent.
  • UD committed eight turnovers compared to DC's four turnovers.
  • Davidson did not make a three in the first half with Dayton making four.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 55, Davidson 44
  • Dayton and Davidson both came out firing in the second half, getting multiple buckets early.
  • The Flyers would push their lead to five, then see it narrowed by the Wildcats.
  • At the media timeout, Dayton led Davidson, 42-37.
  • Scaife was the second Flyer to reach double figures with her 11th point. Burdette reached the 20-point mark in the first five minutes of the third.
  • Dayton got the margin back up to eight at 49-41 with 3:27 to go in the quarter.
  • Senior JaVonna Layfield reached double digits in rebounds with 11.
  • Junior Lauren Cannatelli hit a three before the end of the quarter to put the Flyers up double figures.
4th Quarter: Dayton 85, Davidson 68
  • Cannatelli started off the fourth with two more three-pointers to put Dayton up 61-46.
  • Davidson got it back to single digits at 63-54 by the 6:50 mark while Dayton went on a two-minute drought.
  • The Wildcats called a timeout with 6:04 to play to try and slow the game down as the Flyers led by 12.
  • Davidson scored five straight points from the free throw line as they tried to climb back into the game.
  • Dayton hit its shots down the stretch and kept the game out of reach for Davidson.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
13 – Dayton made 13 three-pointers in the game, tied for the fourth most in school history.
52.5% - The Flyers shot 52.5 percent in the contest and held the Wildcats to 36.6 percent overall and 20 percent from three-point range.
29 – Burdette had 29 points and made a career-high seven three pointers in the game.
17 – Scaife and Cannatelli both finished the game with 17 points.
15-10 – Layfield recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 15 rebounds and 10 points.
42-37 – The Flyers won despite being outrebounded in the game 42-37. It's the first time they have been outrebounded in the past six games.
