#UDWBB Heads To Saint Joseph's Sunday

The Flyers Are 2-0 In The Atlantic 10 This Season

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns to Philadelphia for the second straight weekend to take on Saint Joseph's at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7 at Hagan Arena.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers enter the game with a 9-4 record overall and a 2-0 Atlantic 10 mark. UD is on a three-game winning streak, but is 1-2 in true road games this season.

Head coach Shauna Green is in her second season at the helm of the Flyers after going 22-10 in her first campaign last year. The WBCA National Rookie Coach of the Year returns an experienced squad with three seniors, six juniors, and three starters.

As a team, Dayton leads the A-10 in scoring margin, averaging 75.3 points per game and holding opponents to 60.4 points. The Flyers rank seventh in the nation in defensive rebounds per game, 16th in total rebounds per game, and 18th in defensive field goal percentage.  

The Flyers are led by sophomore Jayla Scaife, who is averaging 15.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and coming off a career-high 35 point performance. Senior Jenna Burdette is contributing 13.8 points each outing while fellow senior JaVonna Layfield is averaging a double-double with 10.8 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING SAINT JOSEPH'S
Saint Joseph's hosts the Flyers with a 7-7 record overall and a 2-0 A-10 mark. The Hawks are just 3-2 at home, but 1-0 in conference play at Hagan Arena. Head coach Cindy Griffin is in her 17th season at SJU and is the program's all-time wins leader.

The Hawks are outscoring opponents 67.7 points each game to 64.8 points allowed. SJU benefits from a +5.9 rebounding margin, but faces a -2.1 turnover margin. As a team, the Hawks shoot 44.0 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from behind the arc, and 62.6 percent from the charity stripe.

SJU has a balanced attack with Sarah Veilleux contributing 14.1 points per game, Chelsea Woods adding 13.4 points and 7.7 rebounds, and Alyssa Monaghan chipping in 11.0 points each contest.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton had a record night with a 116-58 win over Rhode Island at home Thursday. The Flyers had four players in double figures, two double-doubles, and a pair of 30+ point performances to go with the most points by Dayton in program history.

Saint Joseph's remained unbeaten in A-10 play with a 70-64 win over St. Bonaventure on the road Wednesday. The Hawks held the Bonnies to just seven points in the second quarter and scored 20 in the final period to power their way to the win. Chelsea Woods and Amanda Fioravanti both had double-doubles in the game.

THE SERIES
The Flyers and Hawks have squared off 29 times previously with the series being close at Dayton holding 16 wins and Saint Joseph's having 13 wins. In last year's meeting on Jan. 21, the Flyers defended their home court, 64-59.

WHAT A NIGHT
The Flyers broke a number of records in the win over Rhode Island on Jan. 4. Dayton scored the most points in a game in school history with 116 while hitting the most three's with 19 made in the contest. Junior Lauren Cannatelli also broke the school record for most three's in a game with 10 while sophomore Jayla Scaife also passed the previous mark by hitting seven three pointers. Scaife and Cannatelli set career-bests in points scored while redshirt senior Alex Harris tied a career-high in points and set a new best in assists.

The Flyers will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 10 at UD Arena against St. Bonaventure. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. ET as part of the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer game.
