Men's Basketball Downs Coppin State, 76-46

The Flyers Took Command Early With A 12-3 Lead And Never Let Up To Cruise To A 76-46 Win

Box Score DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead against Coppin State on Saturday and never took its foot off the pedal in a 76-46 win at UD Arena. The Flyers forced 21 turnovers and held the Eagles to 30% shooting from the field. The game was Dayton's "Mainland Game" for the Battle 4 Atlantis.
 
The Flyers were led by Ryan Mikesell, who scored 18 points on 7-10 shooting while adding in 10 rebounds. Obi Toppin added in a game-high 19 points on 8-10 from the field. Jalen Crutcher dished out a team-high seven assists. The Flyers allowed under 50 points for the first time since January 22, 2017 vs Saint Louis (67-46) and won by a 30-point margin for the first time since Dec. 23, 2016 against VMI (92-56).
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Half: Dayton 41 Coppin State 18
• After Coppin State scored the first three points, Dayton went on a 17-2 run.
• UD forced five turnovers in the first five minutes of the game.
• After Lamar Morgan made a jumper for Coppin State to cut the Dayton advantage to 24-12, the Eagles went on a 6:42 drought without a field goal, during which the Flyers extended their lead to 37-13.
Jalen Crutcher hit a buzzer-beating floater in the middle of the lane to end the half.
• Coppin State had 14 turnovers in the first half compared to just six for Dayton.
Ryan Mikesell led the Flyers with 11 points in the half while adding seven rebounds.
 
2nd Half: Dayton 76 Coppin State 46
• Dayton continued to dominate the of the 2nd half extending the lead to 64-26 just midway through the half.
Obi Toppin came to play in the half, scoring 10 of the Flyers first 23 on 5-5 shooting.
• UD was able to put in 11 players including the walk-ons late in the game.
• The Flyers outscored the Eagles 9-0 off turnovers in the second half.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Dayton shut down Coppin State holding them to 30%, while shooting a solid 49%.
• UD dominated the paint outscoring CSU 44-20.
• The Flyers passed the ball well piling up 14 assists compared to just four for the Eagles.
• Dayton led for 37:55 of game time.

• 21 - Dayton forced 21 turnovers, scoring 23 points off turnovers, while Coppin State scored just two points off turnovers in the game.
