DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team went up against a top 10 nationally ranked University of Maryland squad, but fell just short despite a strong effort.

Dayton (1-1) began its slate of tough road non-conference games against a loaded Maryland (2-0) team.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 11, Maryland 28
- Dayton jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game off three-pointers by junior Jayla Scaife and senior Lauren Canntelli.
- Maryland responded with a 12-0 run of its own to take a 15-8 lead halfway through the first quarter.
- The Terps kept momentum, slowly adding to their lead, pushing it to double digits.
- The full-court press caused some issues for the Dayton offense.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 27, Maryland 43
- Dayton scored its first point of the second quarter at the 7:15 mark on a Cannatelli free throw.
- The Flyers forced three turnovers over a 1:17 stretch in the early stages.
- Despite trailing, Dayton closed the gap with a 9-0 run over 1:37, forcing a Maryland timeout with 2:48 left in the half.
- Redshirt junior Julia Chandler was a big part of that comeback and was the first Flyer to double digit points. She led UD in the first half with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
- Scaife added eight points and four rebounds.
- Maryland shot a perfect 100 percent from three in the first half.
- UD forced 13 Terrapin turnovers while committing 11.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 53, Maryland 71
- Dayton came out of the locker room on fire and used an 8-0 run over 1:03 to narrow the gap to single digits and force a Maryland timeout at the 7:46 mark.
- The Terps responded though with a 6-0 run over 0:39 midway through the quarter to take a 59-43 lead.
- Dayton was forced to call a timeout at the 3:03 mark as the margin got back to 20 points, 66-46.
- Chandler was the first Flyer to reach 20-points in a game this season, setting a new career high in scoring.

4th Quarter: Dayton 71, Maryland 82
- The margin remained the same over the first few minutes of the fourth before a Shakeela Fowler three forced a Maryland timeout and made it 74-56.
- Dayton put together another nice run down the stretch, going 7-0 over a 2:00 span. Maryland had use their final timeout with 2:47 to play as the Flyers cut it to 13.
- UD showed grit down the final stretch of the game, but came up just short in its rally attempt.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
200 – With her first three of the game,
Lauren Cannatelli reached the 200 made three-pointers mark in her career, only the third Flyer to ever do so.
11-0 – Dayton surged back in to the game in the second quarter with an 11-0 run over a 2:37 span.
24 – Dayton forced 24 turnovers, the most for Maryland since Jan. 11, 2018 against Michigan State, a 17-game stretch.
23 – Chandler scored a career-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 5-of-9 from three.
6-7-8 – Bradshaw had a breakout game herself totaling, six points, seven rebounds, and eight assists, all high's in a Dayton uniform.
