NASSUA, Bahamas -- The University of Dayton men's basketball team fell to Oklahoma in the third-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis by a score of 65-54.Â
The Flyers trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, but rallied to cut the deficit to six at halftime, then opened the second half on a 13-2 run to take the lead. Dayton led 43-39 with 11:55 to play, but Oklahoma finished the game on a 26-11 run, and the Flyers made just one of their final nine field goals, as the Sooners took third place in the tournament. UD's fourth-place finish is its best in an exempt tourmament in three years.
Jalen Crutcher led Dayton with 14 points and six assists, while
Trey Landers recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Half: Oklahoma 34, Dayton 28
- Dayton missed its first seven shots, allowing Oklahoma to jump out to a 9-0 lead, spearheaded by five points from Christian James.
- Trey Landers scored five points in to help the Flyers cut the lead down to 14-10 with 12:45 in the half, but Oklahoma answered with a 12-2 run to extend the advantage back up to 14 with 8:57 to play – its largest of the game.
- Despite the double digits deficit, Dayton trimmed the lead by more than half before the break, including a pair of free throws from Jhery Matos with six seconds in the half to make the score 34-28 at halftime.
 2nd Half: Oklahoma 65, Dayton 54
- The Flyers came out in the second half scorching by scoring the first 13 points of the half to take a 41-34 lead, capped off by a Jalen Crutcher 3-pointer.
- Crutcher made a layup with 11:55 remaining in the game to make the score 43-39, but Oklahoma went on an 8-0 run with four points from Miles Reynolds to take back the lead for the first time since relinquishing it and the Flyers were unable to take it back from the Sooners for the remainder of the game.
- Jordan Davis made a crucial 3-pointer with 4:35 to play to bring the Flyers within two points with a 50-48 margin, but Christian James responded with a 3-pointer of his own on the next possession.
- Miles Reynolds went 13-for-14 (93%) from the free throw line on the game and made six free throws in the final 34 seconds to wrap up the game.
